Cylindrical Sheetmetal part with a Flange

Is it possible to make a cylindrical sheet metal piece with a flange like i have showing in the image i uploaded?

Yes it can be accomplished but there will be limitation in the height. The height will depend on the inner diameter.

It seems to me that the material in the folded state would be much thinner than in the flattened state due to stretching. Then there's the actual creation of the part. Would one actually start with a disc?

Permalink Reply by Deepak Gupta on January 12, 2010 at 10:17pm: I agree with you Jeff. Till modeling this part is OK but the flat pattern will be different than this (i.e. will have a bigger hole) And to add, in the folded state the thickness will vary too.

The other option might be to bend the L shaped profile, then this might be achievable with uniform thickness. What you say.
