SolidWorks Geeks

One of my tasks since being hired, is to manage EPDM, move in data that's outside of PDM, and create user standards and, of course, all halftime.
What I'm wondering about is what others have done about naming of files. I have seen real doozies for names to very proper and mil spec like (my preference).
We have a small group of engineers and fewer who are and will be using PDM. The complaint or concern I hear most about is the renaming of files to be only a drawing number with no description at all. The title is now in it's meta field.
While in Solidworks, info like titles and description are not readily available, particularly while searching on the screen, picking a part, or in the Feature Manager Tree window by select a part in it. Unless one has all names and numbers to memory, it is frustrating to search for a part in a large assembly when you know it's there but it eludes you.
Is there a compromise that others like yourselves, who have allowed some sort of description in the file name or have found a way to list easily descriptions when working with the models in SW, please respond. Thanks.

David sorry for not getting on your query. I'm not expert with PDM so would suggest you to post your query here SW PDM (a location where you find people discussing PDM)
