SolidWorks Geeks

Hello guys!

I want to change plane triad orientation, but not using the wiew orientation tool ! For example, i have 2 finished part in solidworks. But i want to join this 2 parts in a assembly: the first finished model have the right plane as a midplane, and the second finished model have the front plane as a midplane. I want to modify one of these 2 model plane, so they can have the same orientation. Understand!!?? i'm from Brasil, an my english is too bad...ehheh.
But i need some help!! Anyone understand my question??

Thanks

Claudio

Open the part that you want to change the orientation on. Rotate the view until you have what you want as the front view. Hit the spacebar to bring up the view orientation menu, select the front view, then hit the update standard views button (see picture). This will reorient your part. You may want to rename the default planes also.
Hello Mark!

Thanks for the answer! But it didn't resolve my situation. I don't want to change de wiew orientation!! I want to change the triad plane. I want to change front plane to right plane! Understand?
Let me explain to you. For example, i create a skecht circle in the front plane, ok! Later i extrude this skecht with any value, ok! And i save this part as "test1". Later i create another part, but at this time i choose de right plane to extrude a retangle, ok! And i will save this second part as "test2". Now, i will create an assembly with that 2 parts, but i don't want to make matte relations, i just want to insert part direct to the origin. The problem is... the 2 parts were created in diferent planes, i just want the parts at the same plane. I'm having this problens because, i'm working with 10 people, and each people use diferent plans to design product. My function is create the assembly, and i need to create standart plane reference to them. And it's impossible to draw the parts again, they are quite complicated models (surfaces), and i don't have much time to do that.

I'm just looking for a tool or trick to replace de planes (right to front or front to right)

Thanks a lot from now

Claudio
I don't have a quick answer for this. You can try editing and changing the plane that the base feature is on, but that usually has disastorous results. I guess you're only option for this right know is to actually mate the parts in the assembly.
Claudio -

One workaround you could use would be to insert the "wrong orientation" part into an assembly, and mate it to the correct planes there. Then you can either insert the new assembly into your no-mates assembly, or save the assembly as a part. Both have drawbacks - obviously they involve an extra step, and saving as a part destroys your history and the link to the original part - but they might get the job done for you.

Claudio,

I don't think, there is a direct method of doing it. I use the method described by Mark. Some macro gurus might be helpful over here.
