Importing psd,pdf and/or other photo files including jpg into Solidworks

I recently purchased a wacom tablet and have the intention of using it to supplement my use of paper tablet sketching. I have used hand-sketches in the past to import into solidworks using 2008, as a pdf file.

For whatever reason I seem to be getting a screen that pops up describing why solidworks will not allow the import of a psd file. The window says:

The add-in selected is not a valid solidworks add-in.

And, yet within solidworks help section it clearly states that psd files(Adobe Photoshop files) are a supported photo/sketch import file type?

Anyone with any suggestions on a fix or go-around? I am not sure if some feature did not install properly when I last installed sw2009?

I will start by uninstalling and reinstalling sw.

I haven't check if PSD can be directly imported but you can try one thing. Start a new sketch, then go to insert> sketch tools > skecth picture and then importthe psd file. I'm not sure about the exact path which i have written but look for sketch picture under help if it is not the correct path.

O.K. I have uninstalled and reinstalled SW09 professional edition yesterday. After downloading and installing the sp3, while the installation manager was running it said there was an error 1608 code. And, that solidworks and it's features as well as edrawings, explorer, etc did not install at all.

And, yet it did install? I opened SW and tried a direct import of psd file. The exact same window pops up saying that the file type is not a valid file by the

" the add-in selected is not a valid solidworks add-in."

I then opened a new sketch to try the go around of importing a photo as Deepak described that to did not work. Only nothing at all happens, no messages what so ever.

In 2008 version of solidworks I had no problem directly importing a pdf/psd file? The 2008 version was also a professional license not the Premium version?

This is really bugging me, for I have planned to use the sketches for the completion of a project that I am working on. While I still have the SW08 version I have already made the new project in 2009 so there no going back as the two versions are not backwards compatible.

Not sure if it is my download of the 2009 that is somehow causing the add-in features not to install properly or 2009 is just buggy and not doing what it is suppose to do as advertised.
I just checked and I'm able to import the psd file without any trouble. I'm working with SW09 SP 3.0.
Ah, it seems as if something is wrong with my installation. I do get a failed installation manager window which says that my database is missing. Also, there's nothing in the control panel at all that says Solidworks.

I have been able to import object files in the pdf file type, but I want the more edit ready features of the psd. Downloading SW09 sp3 from the site is likely what is causing this issue. I am sure that the files are not properly registering as they should.

I have to do the install from the actual disk then do an update there after to sp3. This should solve the issue I hope.

So Deepak which version are you using Professional or Premium?

I'm on Office Professional. How are you downloading the SP 3.0 files. Are you downloading the complete package (around 3 GB) or just the updates.

Looking at the the errors files, it seems problem with your installation.
