SolidWorks Geeks

Hello All,

I usually get an error whenever I try to open the scan data that is in IGES format. We usually work on reverse engineering and hence scan data import into part is a must. Sometimes we have file size of the IGES data that goes upto 100MB. I am unable to use the data as the system gets hanged often. But the same file I open in PRO-E or CATIA works at faster rate. Is it a problem with SOLIDWORKS only? I have been using or doing these kind of work from past 4 years and didn't find any improvements in the performance.

Did you tried to test the part the different machine or checked with your VAR?

Are you running 32bit XP.  What version of SW are you running?  There is a big jump in performance when you go to a 64bit system.  32bit xp has a limit on the RAM.  Even if you have more than 3gb xp will not use it.  What processes are running on your machine constantly?  Did catia and ProE have any special precedence over other programs?

I was running into a similar issue when on 02 xp 32bit system.  When i switched the same machine over to 64bit win 7 i no longer had the issue.  For me it was how xp handled the memory in relation to SW.

Also for your scan data have you tried importing your raw scan data using scan to 3d add in?  Once you turn this on you can open all kinds of mesh and point cloud files and use the ScanTo3D toolbar to create curves and surfaces based on them.

Hello Matt Perez,

Thanks for the information. But I hope scan to 3d needs a license.

Deepak,

I have tried on different machine that has 12GB ram, but the problem remains  same. Hope windows play a role in this case.Am running on xp.
