Before last month the "SolidWorks Geeks" site was just collecting dust in the back corner of the closest. Six months old and with only 5 members, the site was destined for the internet graveyard with no mourners but I decided to try one last time to rescue the site from obscurity. The hardest thing was to figure out how to attract attention to the site and help it grow; then it came to me... Bribery! I contacted
Matt Lombard, the author of the SolidWorks Bible, and I asked him if he would be willing to donate one of his books for a contest and the rest is
history.
Flash ahead to one month later and SolidWorks Geeks is finally growing; with 73 members connecting, sharing & learning. The forum is picking up in activity and I have have seen some awesome advice shared with the members of the site. Over the past month the three most active members where (in order)
Smoky Rick,
Mark Kaiser &
Deepak Gupta. That's probably why it should be no surprise to anyone that the winner of the the SolidWorks 2009 Bible is.... Smoky Rick!
Rick's name was randomly selected using
http://www.random.org/ from over 150 entries based on the number of posts made in the forums. Here is what Rick had to say when he found out he won:
"I am thrilled and I know that the best winnings is just having this great group of users to ask questions of, and bounce things off of. Hopefully I will learn more and be able to answer more questions in the future, instead of just asking all the time.
Thanks, Alex for this great site, and I am proud to be a "SolidWorks Geek"."
Congratulations Rick! I am excited to see members like yourself asking and answering questions about everyone's favorite 3D modeling software, SolidWorks. With your help, along with all the other members, we can make "SolidWorks Geeks" the biggest SolidWorks community on the internet. Remember to spread the word so that more people can connect, share and learn!
