SolidWorks 2010: No Experience Required Companion Site Now Live

Just in time for the March 8^th release of SolidWorks 2010: No Experience Required, the companion site is now live. Instead of including a CD with the book, we opted to do a companion site (www.swner.com). The advantage to doing a companion site instead of a CD is that readers will have a more interactive experience. CDs have one major drawback; they cannot be updated on the fly. The SWNER website is built just like a blog which will be constantly updated with tons of additional information. Not only will you be able to download all of the documents used in the book but you will also be able to get additional tutorials, videos and expanded information about concepts discussed in the book. Being a first time author, I know there might be some unintended holes in the book. Instead of waiting till the next edition of the book to address any issues, I will be able to provide updates as the need arises.

Interact with Readers

I would have to say that one of the major advantages to having a companion site; is that it allows me to interact with the readers. After the book is put on sale, readers will have the chance to ask questions, get a topic clarified or even discover different applications to the concepts and tools discussed in the book. I am really excited about the chance to provide a service that many authors don’t get the chance to give.

Even though SolidWorks 2010: No Experience Required is not released yet, you should still visit the website. If you are considering purchasing the book (which I hope everybody is), you can take a look at what the book has to offer. On the menu at the top of the site, there are three links to samples from the book. The Table of Contents, Index and even one complete chapter is available for everybody to read.
